Agtech Seminar on Knowledge Transfer is an important even for any educational institution. Hence, it was a great time at the Ternopil National Pedagogical University (Ternopil, Ukraine).

University as Knowledge Enabler

On 18 October 2017, the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of the Ternopil National Pedagogical University (TNPU) hosted a one-day interdisciplinary seminar. Its main topic was “Intellectual Information Technologies in Education and Science”.

This agtech seminar on knowledge transfer had a purpose to bring more talents into agriculture. It helped to provide a new model for high‐quality, open interdisciplinary engagement between professionals in biology, informational technology and education.

The co-organizers of this event were Andriy and Natalia Hertz. They represented the Department of General Biology and Methodology of Natural Sciences Teaching and the Department of Botany and Zoology at Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of University. Together they explained how on-line platform PhotosynQ works. Also they shared how does it help them in conducting scientific research.

Petiole As The Key Participant of Agritech Seminar on Knowledge Transfer

Andrii Seleznov, Chief Technology Officer at Petiole, was invited to represent Petiole.

To demonstrate how Petiole works, he explained the concept of mobile application for accurate leaf area measurements. Also, he spoke about the importance of data for plant physiology.

The workshop also consisted of several sessions of presentations by Ph.D candidates. Each of them was followed by a discussion aiming to get insights from all participants. Since the audience had different disciplinary experiences, it was a nice opportunity to illustrate any discussion with examples.

Indeed, the workshop created a relaxed environment enabling the exchange of knowledge and research methods cutting across biological, educational and pedagogical disciplines.

Also, the workshop was a good learning opportunity. Participants had a chance to try all the instruments. Stand with Petiole was equipped fully. As a result, anyone could use discussed instruments in practice. In fact, they could assess the plant’s health conditions in real-time and share feedback about these tools.

We would like to thank all participants of the workshop for their participation. Interest in digitalizing agriculture research and other scientific areas is a great sign.
